How to use Birthday Command Center

A feature-by-feature manual for the dates, calendars, age tools, countdowns, reminders, planning workflows and data controls in Birthday Command Center.

Read the Command dashboard

Command is the overview for dates and plans you have saved. It is most useful as a starting point: scan what is approaching, open a record when you need its details, or continue a plan that is already in progress.

What appears here

When you have active birthday records, Command brings the next birthday forward with its date and live countdown, then lists upcoming birthdays and anniversaries. It also surfaces useful details from plans, including an approaching event, the next task, overdue work or event-day activity when those apply.

The page can also show today’s birthday or anniversary, milestone context, a built-in celebration greeting, and the current sky zodiac and season. These date and sky details are reference features; they do not replace the information in your saved records.

From November 29 through December 25, a seasonal Command card counts down to Christmas and opens a Planner celebration plan or its Gifts section for organizing gift ideas and budgets. From December 26–31, it switches to a New Year countdown with a shortcut to the live timer. Anniversaries has a separate Valentine planning card from February 1 through 14.

Start from an empty dashboard

With no active birthday to track, Command still presents routes into the registries and tools. Add a birthday to build the upcoming-date queue, or open another feature directly if you came to calculate an age, set a countdown or make a plan. The “How to use this site” link opens this manual.

Pausing reminders keeps a record saved while taking it out of active countdowns and reminders. Resume it from the registry whenever you want it back in the active queue.

Add and manage birthdays

The Birthdays registry is a personal list of the people, pets, characters or other birthday dates you choose to remember. It is not a public directory. Use it to keep a recurring date, then open an entry when you need its age details, notes, reminders or related actions.

Create a useful record

Choose “Add birthday” and enter a name, month and day. The year is optional: without it, the app can still track the annual date, but it cannot calculate age or birthday milestones. Choose a category or add your own under Other; optional notes and a profile image can hold details that help you remember the person. New images are resized before saving.

For February 29 birthdays, choose whether a non-leap-year observance falls on February 28 or March 1. In leap years the actual February 29 date is used.

Use the birthday details

Select a record to open its details, settings and shortcuts. Depending on the information saved, the detail view can show age, zodiac sign, birthday countdown, milestone dates, notes and calendar options. From a birthday you can continue to Age Lab, create or open a Planner entry, view a related countdown or play a birthday tune.

For a person who has passed away, optional status settings let you record a date of passing, keep or pause the annual remembrance, and show age at passing or a “would be” age. These choices change the way that record is presented; they do not create a separate person or remove its saved date.

Pause, edit or remove an entry

Use the record’s action buttons to edit, delete or pause/resume its tracking. Pausing retains the entry in your registry and reference calendar while stopping its active countdown and notification behavior. Delete only when you want to remove the saved record.

Track anniversaries and other recurring dates

Use Anniversaries for meaningful dates that come around again: weddings and relationship milestones, friendships, first meetings, work anniversaries, moves, memorials or a personal milestone. Dating, engagement and marriage share one Relationship entry and timeline. In its details, choose which chapter date and count appear in the registry and popup; the next anniversary, yearly progress and today highlight follow that choice. The setting stays with the record. Other anniversaries show time since the saved event when its year is known.

Choose what to save

Add a couple or event name and the month and day. Add a year when you want elapsed-time and anniversary-age calculations; leave it blank if you only need the recurring date. Add notes, a category, an optional image and an icon colour to make the record easier to recognize.

Keep dating, engagement, marriage and divorce on one Relationship record. For a new entry, choose Dating, Engaged or Married to set what the main anniversary date represents; add earlier chapter dates below when known. Choosing a status never sets a date to today. On an existing record, the main date stays attached to its saved chapter when status changes. In the detail panel, choosing a new status captures the device-local date and time only when that chapter has no date, and moving back removes only that automatic capture. Small Clear date & time links ask you to confirm; clearing the selected chapter returns the registry to its original date, and clearing a wedding date removes its linked countdown. The selected chapter controls the recurring date and count shown in the registry. Milestone times are optional; each chapter saves its selected zone, initially your device zone, even before a time is entered. The zone label shows its abbreviation and UTC offset for that date. For a timed wedding, use the venue’s zone. Add countdown creates its linked Personal Countdown right away.

February 29 records have the same non-leap-year choice as birthdays: February 28 or March 1. The actual February 29 is observed in leap years.

Connect the date to a celebration

Open the record to review its next date and notes, set a reminder or start a related plan. A single saved date can lead into preparation in Planner; keep the recurring date in the registry and event-specific decisions in the plan.

Pause an anniversary when you want to keep the calendar record without active countdowns, overlays and highlights. You can turn tracking back on later.

Find records, review the calendar and spot overlaps

Both registries include a searchable work area and a date-focused reference view. Use the work area to maintain individual entries; use the calendar and yearly summaries to see how dates, celebrations and plans fit together.

Search and organize the registry

Search by name, choose one or more categories, and sort by next date, event date, name, category or elapsed time. Date order adds month checkboxes, age order adds age ranges, next-date order adds a date window, and birthday zodiac order adds sign checkboxes. Each filter menu has a Show all option. Table is the default on larger screens and Cards on phones; switch layouts any time. Adding a record in Cards keeps that layout and opens a matching birthday or anniversary form.

Import or export a registry as CSV when you want to edit or review the birthday or anniversary list in a spreadsheet. CSV is for registry records; use the full JSON backup for the rest of your command-center data.

Use Year at a glance and the Reference Calendar

The yearly distribution summarizes where your saved dates fall through the year. Open the Reference Calendar to navigate dates, months and year ranges. A selected date can show birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations and planned events that meet on that day, along with calendar details such as its day number and ISO week.

The zodiac readout in this calendar describes the current sky position and its next change. A person’s zodiac sign comes from their birthday and appears in that person’s birthday details and registry row; those are two different views of zodiac information.

Read birthday milestone colours

In Birthdays, the colour key marks every-other birthdays in orange, decade birthdays in blue and centenary birthdays in purple. Use the key to understand the highlight; the person’s age and milestone date are shown in the record details when a birth year is available.

Choose an Age Lab tool

Choose one of six tools. Enter dates or ages directly; saved birthdays are optional shortcuts. Calculator entries stay in the open session and are not backed up or synced. Custom Age Phases settings are saved with each person. Use Clear to reset a tool; Age difference can clear one pair or all pairs.

Age difference

Compare two birth dates to see the calendar gap and whether Person 1 is older or younger. Swap exchanges each person's name and birth date while keeping the Person 1 and Person 2 positions. Names are optional; a saved birthday can fill in its name and date. Clear one pair or the whole section. Uses calendar dates, not time of day.

Others' ages at one person's chosen age

Enter one person's birth date and completed age as the reference. The one-date view shows everyone's age on the resulting reference date; optional months or days move that date forward. The birthday-to-birthday view runs from that birthday through the day before the next one. Each result shows the other person's age during the span and the birthday when it changes. Saved birthdays can fill the reference or comparison rows when available.

Age on a date / estimated birth date

Choose a reference date and add the people you want to compare; saved birthdays can fill their birth-date rows. Or choose “I know their age” and enter the completed age on that date. Select whether the birthday falls on or before the reference date or is still coming up, or enter its month and day. The result is a possible birth-date range unless the month and day narrow it to one estimate. Age alone cannot identify an exact birthday; use Age milestones when birth time matters.

Age phases & next transition

Enter a birth date directly or choose a saved birthday; the tool works without registry entries. A blank Reference date uses today. Choose Use today to put today's date in the field, or select another date to inspect that day. Select a broad, detailed or custom phase profile. The Detailed profile includes later-life age-term milestones alongside its phase results. Custom bands can be named and edited and are saved for the selected birthday. Phase boundaries use completed calendar birthdays. These descriptive labels are not an assessment, and the cutoffs are not universal.

Age milestone dates

Enter a birth date and add one or more target rows, such as an age or duration, to calculate when each milestone occurs and how far away it is. A birth time supports precise hour, minute and second targets; without a time, midnight is used.

Time-unit conversion

Convert a duration between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, average months, average years, decades, centuries and millennia. Days and smaller units convert directly. Calendar-scale month and year values use average lengths, so they do not mean a particular named month or calendar year.

Track countdowns, celebrations and time spans

Countdowns combines annual observances, personal dates, saved date ranges and supporting time calculators. Live readouts use the device clock; check the displayed date and time when precision matters.

Choose the time marker

Set the headline marker to the start of next month, the next zodiac season or the next astronomical season. The astronomical option shows its exact moment in your local time and uses Northern Hemisphere season names; the corresponding season is opposite south of the equator.

Follow annual celebrations

The celebration list contains built-in annual countdowns and optional entries you choose to add. Sort it by upcoming date or by month. Add a preset or define your own occasion as a fixed annual date, a weekday rule (for example, a particular weekday in a month) or a one-time date.

Some lunar or regional observances are explicitly marked as estimates because dates can depend on tradition or local observation. Edit the date when you have a confirmed local date. Added celebrations can also appear as overlap notes in the birthday and anniversary registries.

Open Preview dates to see several years of occurrences, possible windows for rule-based dates, and qualified timing notes for variable celebrations.

Track personal dates and ranges

Use a personal countdown for one event date, or Date ranges for longer spans such as trips, school years or celebration plans. Add named phases for parts such as terms or trip stages. Each range and phase shows a live days-to-seconds timer with a calendar-duration label; expand Phases for each stage’s progress and status. The first phase starts with the range; later phases default to the previous phase’s end and the range end, but gaps are allowed. Blank phase end times hand off at midnight; explicit times hand off at that time. Manual boundary edits detach them from linked dates. Phase times use the parent’s saved timezone. Your selected view and sort stay saved. Deleting a countdown or range asks for confirmation.

Compare dates and convert durations

The date-time difference tool compares two moments and can display the result as elapsed time, weeks plus days or calendar units. When no time is entered, midnight is used. The supporting time converter uses the same average month/year assumptions described in Age Lab.

Turn an occasion into a plan

Planner holds the changing work around an event. Start from a birthday or anniversary record to carry its identity and date into a plan, or create a custom event. The saved date remains in its registry; the plan holds the preparation, event details and after-event notes. Plans stay available after their event so useful information can carry forward.

Overview: see the next useful action

The Overview gathers the selected event date, status, progress, attention items and next steps. It can surface preparation tasks, upcoming deadlines and a summary of the event-day itinerary. Use its section shortcuts to jump to the work that needs attention.

Tasks & itinerary: prepare, then run the day

Use tasks for preparation work, due dates and reminders. Use the itinerary for event-day activities, with timing and date details that can span multiple days. During an event, Live view lets you mark activities done, skipped or changed, add live notes and check guests in.

Guest check-in is an event-day tool. Sending an invitation does not collect replies automatically; update each guest’s RSVP yourself in the plan.

Celebration: keep event logistics together

Store the event’s practical details in Celebration: guests and their contact information, providers and booking/payment/pickup dates, venue and logistics, shopping and packing lists, setup and coordination notes, resources, and other event-specific details. Expand the sections relevant to your event and leave the rest empty.

Gifts & budget: track decisions and costs

Add gift ideas or purchases with details such as priority, estimated and actual cost, delivery status, links, store and notes. Record other event expenses separately. The plan summarizes budget, spending, paid and outstanding amounts, and what remains against the budget you set.

Card & invite: write and share the practical details

Draft a card message and copy, share, print or download it. The invitation area gathers information such as the event, host, date, RSVP deadline, contact method, dress code and special instructions. Choose all, selected or no saved guests as recipients, then copy or share the invitation. Replies still need to be recorded manually in Celebration.

Memories: make the next plan easier

Afterward, save memorable moments, gifts given, what worked, what did not, unexpected issues and what you want to remember or avoid next time. Add album links or optional photos; newly added photos are resized and compressed before saving. Mark the plan completed when you are ready, or start a future plan from reusable details.

Share, export and reuse a plan

Export selected sections as copied text, a DOCX document or a print-ready page you can save as PDF. Presets help prepare a helper copy or guest information, and you can change the selection before exporting. A plan JSON import is reviewed first and creates a separate editable plan; it does not merge into or replace an existing plan.

Set reminders and use birthday extras

Reminder controls belong to the relevant birthday, anniversary, countdown or planner deadline. They are optional: saved dates, the dashboard and countdowns remain useful without granting notification permission.

Browser reminders and calendar handoffs

Use Remind me to choose browser notifications or calendar alerts. Browser notifications need permission and depend on the browser allowing BCC to run; browsers may pause background work. Birthday and anniversary calendar options create yearly events. Personal countdown options create a one-time event. The .ics file can include alerts from one month (30 days) to the event day; Google Calendar uses its own alert settings. Calendar exports keep the event details and a link back to the relevant BCC section, not an individual saved record.

A person’s optional time-zone setting helps show when their next birthday midnight occurs in their time zone compared with your device time. Browser notifications and calendar alerts are separate systems, grouped in the same Remind me menu.

Birthday Tunes and the celebration moment

Open Birthday Tunes from a birthday record or a birthday celebration moment. Choose among the built-in tunes, adjust volume, and play, pause or stop. The library also presents lyrics, greetings, translations, romanization and cultural context where available. Some entries have bundled audio, some are text-only, and some link out to an external recording; the page labels these differences.

The optional “Make a wish” note is temporary and is not saved automatically. Birthday audio preferences can be remembered in this browser.

Keep a copy and move your data

The app works without an account. When logged out, its working copy is stored in this browser on this device. Optional account sync keeps an account copy across devices while the browser keeps a local working copy. Logging in is not required to use the main tools.

Choose the right export

Download a full JSON backup for saved command-center data, including registry records, plans, countdowns, date ranges and person-specific custom Age Phases settings. Temporary Age Lab calculator entries are not included. Restore a JSON backup when you want to bring saved data back. Backups are portable files, separate from both the browser copy and any synced account copy.

CSV is useful for spreadsheet work on birthday or anniversary registry records. Planner also has its own plan import/export tools. Those narrower exports do not replace the full JSON backup.

Understand local copies and account sync

Clearing this site’s browser cookies and other site data removes the local working copy. A synced account copy remains until you delete that account data; downloaded backups and exports must be managed separately. Read the Privacy Policy for details about storage, optional sync, external links and your controls.

“Clear all data” erases the saved data on this device and, when you are signed in, its synced account copy too. Export a backup first if you may want to restore it later.

Connect the tools into a workflow

The tools are designed to hand useful information to one another. You can use only the parts you need; there is no required setup sequence or account sign-in for these workflows.

Prepare for someone’s birthday

Save the person in Birthdays, then open the record to check its next date and set a reminder. Create or open a related Planner entry to manage guests, shopping, gifts, costs, tasks and the event-day schedule. Use Card & invite to write and share details, then record replies in the guest list yourself. After the event, save memories and carry forward the parts that will help next year.

Check what else shares a date

Add an optional celebration in Countdowns, then review a date in the Reference Calendar or a registry record’s overlap notes. This helps you notice when a birthday, anniversary, celebration or planned event falls together without mixing those dates into one record.

Answer an age question and follow the milestone

Choose the matching Age Lab calculator: compare dates, check ages at a shared milestone, calculate ages on a reference date, estimate a birth-date range from someone's age, explore descriptive age bands, or find when a duration is reached. If you want a live timer to that specific moment, create a personal countdown in Countdowns as a separate step.

Find background reading and site information

Different pages serve different jobs: this guide explains how to use the product; Articles contains topic-based reading; the story and privacy pages explain the site’s background and data practices.

Articles

Browse the editorial library for reading about birthday history and meaning, milestones, zodiac terminology and thoughtful celebration planning. Research and history pieces include source references so you can explore the material behind their claims. This guide stays outside the Articles list because it is product documentation rather than an editorial article.

How it began and Privacy Policy

“How it began” describes the project’s origins and why its date, age, countdown and planning tools were brought together. The Privacy Policy explains local storage, account sync, exports, external services and ways to control your data.

Contact and feedback

Use Contact to send feedback, suggest an improvement, report a bug or missing feature, flag a factual error, or ask about account sync or privacy. Choose the closest topic, describe the issue and provide an email address so the developer can reply. For bug reports, include the page and what you expected to happen; do not include passwords or private birthday records. Messages are delivered by an external form service, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
